Sevivon's hydrogen project receives EU funding

PNE AG, the parent company of Sevivon, is analyzing the possibilities of large-scale renewable hydrogen production in the West Pomeranian region of Poland, transmitting the output through the planned hydrogen network. The company has established cooperation with operators of Polish and German gas transmission networks: Operator Gazociągów Przesyłowych GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and GASCADE Gastransport GmbH. Feasibility studies as part of the project ‘Pomeranian Green Hydrogen Cluster’ have received EU funding.

Sevivon’s plan includes the construction of wind and photovoltaic farms in north-western Poland with a total capacity exceeding 2 GW which will provide energy for renewable hydrogen-producing installations with a total capacity of 1 GW. Project of that scale has the potential to boost the development of the renewable hydrogen sector and to bolster European energy independence.

Connecting hydrogen-producing plants to the hydrogen transmission network requires significant infrastructure expansion. That is why PNE AG has started a partnership with the Polish gas transmission operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and its German counterpart GASCADE Gastransport GmbH. The first stage of the project will consist of feasibility studies regarding the electrolysis plants connection to the planned hydrogen network in Poland and the cross-border connection of the Polish and German networks.

The ‘Pomeranian Green Hydrogen Cluster’ project has been awarded funding as part of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency’s (CINEA) CEF RES instrument. GASCADE, GAZ-SYSTEM and PNE will receive a total of EUR 190,000 for the evaluation of the cross-border hydrogen infrastructure possibilities.
